i loved the quirky youthful humor that betrays the true magic in the author's deceptively simple and measured narrative style. what many might not be aware of is that the heroine of the novel, is part of what the western world call the baby boomer generation;, but in Africa this generation has a much more remarkable tale than simply one of post war reconstruction - a tale far more layered and fundamental: one i will leave up to them to write about except to say that this short novel gives an insightful and romantic sojourn into that period of monumental social upheaval; it's success for me is in how, like a leaf in a storm, it resists the gale force winds of it's time period and the reader truly feels the warmth of a small African village buffeted by tradition and encroaching modernity.LOOSE THOUGHTS, Vol 1.- "the today siren"
